I Didn’t Set Out to Become a Brain Health Coach
My passion for brain health is deeply personal.
I watched members of my family struggle with neurological and mental health challenges. Those experiences left me searching for answers and wanting to better understand why people think, feel, and behave the way they do.
When I discovered Dr. Daniel Amen’s work, many pieces began to come together.
The more I learned, the more I realized that brain health influences nearly every area of our lives—our relationships, resilience, leadership, decision-making, energy, and sense of purpose.
I enrolled in the Brain Health Coach Certification as a student because I wanted to learn more. What I didn’t expect was how much it would change me. The program gave me a completely new lens for understanding people and helping them create meaningful change.
That experience eventually led me to become part of Amen University, where I now have the privilege of serving as one of the instructors for the very program that inspired me.
Today, I help guide students from around the world as they learn how to bring brain health principles into their work, families, and communities.
Why I Believe Brain Health Is the Missing Piece
For years, I worked with people who wanted to improve their lives.
They wanted more energy. Better relationships. Greater resilience. More confidence. Less stress.
Like many helping professionals, I focused on mindset, habits, behavior change, and personal growth. Those things matter.
But what I eventually realized is that many people are trying to improve their lives without understanding the organ that drives all of it—the brain.
When the brain is struggling, everything becomes harder. Focus becomes harder. Decision-making becomes harder. Managing emotions becomes harder. Even following through on goals becomes harder.
That’s why brain health matters.
When people begin to understand how their brain works and learn practical ways to support it, they often gain new hope, greater self-awareness, and a clearer path forward.
I’ve seen it in my own life. I’ve seen it in my students and clients. And I’ve seen it in countless people who finally realize they are not broken—they simply needed a different lens.
“People aren’t broken. They simply needed a different lens."Â
So What Does a Brain Health Coach Actually Do?
A Brain Health Coach isn’t a therapist. They don’t diagnose, prescribe, or treat.
What they do is help people understand the connection between their brain, their habits, and their everyday life—and give them practical tools to start making changes that actually stick.
Think about how often the people in your life struggle with:
- Managing stress and emotional overwhelm
- Staying focused and following through on goals
- Making good decisions under pressure
- Sustaining energy throughout the day
- Navigating relationships and communication
Most of them were never taught how their brain influences all of it.
Brain Health Coaches bridge that gap. They work within their existing professional role—or build a new one—helping people finally understand why change has felt so hard, and what to do about it.
This is not therapy, medical treatment, or clinical practice. Brain Health Coaches support behavior change and brain health education.
What Surprised Me Most About This Program
What surprised me most wasn’t what I learned about helping others. It was what I learned about myself.
I began to better understand why stress affected me the way it did. Why certain habits felt harder to change. Why some seasons felt more overwhelming than others.
And why brain health isn’t just about prevention—it’s about improving the quality of our everyday lives.
The program gave me practical tools that influenced how I lead, teach, coach, and care for myself. Those lessons continue to shape my work today.
What Makes the Brain Health Coach Certification Different
Over the years, I’ve completed many professional development programs and certifications. What drew me to this one was its unique focus on the brain.
Dr. Daniel Amen has spent decades helping people understand how brain health influences nearly every aspect of life—from stress and relationships to focus, resilience, and performance.
What impressed me most was that the program didn’t just teach theory. It provided practical tools that could be applied immediately.
As a student, I found myself using what I learned not only in my work but also in my own life. Today, as one of the instructors for Amen University, I have the privilege of helping students experience that same transformation.
What I love most about this certification is that it combines science, coaching, and real-world application in a way that empowers people to make meaningful and lasting changes.
